Golf lights up St Andrews!
The St Andrews night sky will come alive with a spectacular fireworks display on the eve of the final day of this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
An annual favourite with golfers, spectators and St Andrews residents, the display will begin at 8.25pm this Saturday (5th October) and take place on the West Sands, adjacent to the Old Course.

A prize fund of US$5 million, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship incorporates two separate competitions – an individual tournament for the leading professionals and a team championship in which the pros are paired with amateur golfers.

- Last year’s winner Matt Fitzpatrick, who won both the Individual title and the Team Championship with his mum Sue, is back to defend both.
- Among others who have confirmed they will be playing are Scotland’s Bob MacIntyre, Brooks Koepka, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed and Danny Willett, plus crowd favourite Billy Horschel, Olympic silver medal winner Tommy Fleetwood, and two-time champions Padraig Harrington and Tyrrell Hatton.

More than any other week in the town’s calendar, the Championship is the ‘go to’ for those who love to spot the stars. Among the amateurs in this year’s event are Hollywood’s Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, Bill Murray and Kathryn Newton, rock stars Tom Chaplin from Keane, Linkin Park’s Dave Farrell, Mike Rutherford of Genesis and cult US rock legends Huey Lewis and Bon Jovi’s Tico Torres.

In June 2011 the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation was established as the official Foundation of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The Foundation is committed to developing young amateur golfers in Scotland and South Africa and also supports the University of St Andrews and the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, which refurbishes and preserves historical monuments in the town.
