Golf and Conflict
Upcoming at the World Golf Museum is a lecture with their curator, Kieran George, covering ‘Golf and Conflict at St Andrews 1552-1946‘.
The links between golf and conflict go back to the game’s earliest history. In this lecture, Kieran will talk through 400 years of golf and conflict in the town.
Down the rabbit hole …
These aren’t conspiracy theories – rather fascinating facts on the history of our town. Learn about the fate of Archbishop Hamilton, author of the famous 1552 charter, where golf in St Andrews was mentioned for the very first time – and take a journey through time from the ‘Rabbit Wars’ to the end of the Second World War.
This lecture ties in the themes of the Museum’s temporary exhibition ‘Bunker Shots: Stories of Golf and Conflict‘ which was curated by Kieran and runs until Spring 2026.
